Participatory Budgeting for Climate Justice!

Participatory Budgeting is back in the 33rd and we’re focusing on climate justice!

We are committing $1 million of our office’s budget to fund your best ideas to tackle the climate crisis locally in an effort to achieve some of the goals outlined in the District 33 Climate Roadmap. This could be a rooftop garden in a school or a physical alteration to a street that improves walkability of our streets or new street trees to reduce urban heat, and so much more!

Participatory Budgeting is a process that builds stronger communities through civic engagement by empowering you to decide how government funds are invested in our neighborhoods.

Idea Collection

This fall neighbors shared their ideas online and in person. We hosted two in-person Neighborhood Assemblies and a virtual forum to learn about what qualifies as a capital project and brainstorm and share ideas for how to improve the environment and address climate change locally.

District Committee

We brought together a diverse group of local representatives to oversee our participatory budgeting process and refine project ideas that we submitted to city agencies to determine viability and cost.
